Cassandra's Report

In answering the question of how we know what we know about the ancient world, we discuss texts, archaeology, how information has gotten passed down and what the limitations of our knowledge are. We take some detours into a wacky Roman law, a couple of terrible conversations Amanda has had with dudes in bars, Lauren being incapable of not making dumb jokes, and a really cool example of early Greek writing on a piece of pottery called Nestor's Cup.

In this episode, we discuss the idea of 'Western Civilization' and how it actually includes a lot of areas we now think of as the East. We talk about a few ancient Near Eastern societies and also spend some time contemplating the existence of aliens, because why not.

In the inaugural episode, Lauren and Amanda talk about why they decided to do a podcast and discuss their answers to the question they get the most: "What time period would you want to live in if you could choose?"
